Jalaur Dam starts impounding water

ILOILO CITY – The Jalaur High Dam started impounding water on Wednesday, May 8.

The dam is part of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage 2 (JRMP 2) in Calinog, Iloilo. JRMP 2 spokesman Steve Cordero told The Manila Times that in the impoundment process, they will gradually fill the high dam's reservoir of around 600 hectares of land with water.'We have already lowered our gates to close the diversion tunnel of our Jalaur High Dam [...] We have already sealed off the inlet, the entrance of the diversion tunnel, to allow the water to flow through our waterway towards the dam,' he said.

Personnel from the National Irrigation Administration sealed off the inlet of its diversion tunnel, marking the commencement of the initial phase of water impoundment into the reservoir of the Jalaur High Dam on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. PHOTO CONTRIBUTED BY JRMP 2
