Amending the Rice Tariffication Law

FROM its passage in February 2019, the Rice Tariffication Law (RTL), or Republic Act 11203, has invited a lot of criticism and controversies among those who did not favor its enactment.

Among others, RTL removed the power of the National Food Authority (NFA) to import rice and its monopoly over rice trading. By doing this, it ended the NFA's function of stabilizing rice prices.
