US: China harassment in Scarborough Shoal 'detrimental' to regional peace and stability

MANILA, Philippines: The United States said the repeated harassment of Philippine vessels by Chinese ships near Scarborough Reef (Panatag Shoal) was 'detrimental' to regional peace and stability.

US State Department Deputy spokesman Vedant Patel on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) urged China 'to respect the navigational rights and freedoms guaranteed to all States under international law.'
