STATE-OWNED Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) will conduct studies on the installation of rooftop solar power systems on buildings located in the special economic zone of LBP Resources and Development Corp. (LBRDC) in Tala, Caloocan.
LRRDC is a subsidiary of Land Bank of the Philippines. Specifically, PNOC will study which buildings in LBRDC's 21-hectare special economic zone in Caloocan can be fitted with solar rooftop systems.
PNOC said the partnership's initial focus was that of facilitating the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems in LBRDC premises and areas of potential locators. This will involve sharing of technical expertise and pooling of resources to develop sustainable solar initiatives at the special economic zone.
PNOC President and Chief Executive Officer Oliver Butalid said he hoped the agreement would start making PNOC the go-to company for the energy needs of government agencies.
'For PNOC, we would like to step into the role [of providing energy solutions] and make the government entities benefit from all of these technologies in renewables. That will be our contribution in not only helping government agencies reduce their electricity costs, but also help them achieve societal goals of ensuring that we use energy more efficiently,' Butalid said.
'We're excited to partner initially through this rooftop solar business as we are your provider. We look forward to a long years of collaboration not only in this but many other projects,' he added.
For his part, LBRDC President and CEO Ricardo Juliano said the partnership with PNOC could expand to other related initiatives.
'On our side, we are also really very excited. It's not just because we want to save money on electricity, but it's because of the multiplier effect of what this partnership can achieve. Based on discussions with president Oliver, it's just a small start, we can actually go beyond what we have there [in] our economic zone,' Juliano said.
