METROPOLITAN Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), the banking arm of the Ty family, reported on Tuesday that net income in the first quarter of this year rose 14.5 percent year-on-year to P12 billion.

The growth, which translated to a return on equity of 13.7 percent, was attributed to the continued expansion of the bank's lending portfolio, improved operational efficiencies, steady asset quality and capital optimization strategy.
