THE title of first lady or first gentleman is not an elected position, carries no official duties and has no personal remuneration. Nonetheless, the holder of such title participates in humanitarian and charitable work on behalf of the president, often in line with his or her policies and programs. Furthermore, many of the holders of this post have taken an active role in campaigning for the president or have participated in public life in some other manner.
But none has gone public to throw shade at a sitting vice president who was courted by the Marcoses in 2022 to be part of the UniTeam. To directly ask for an apology from the vice president when the claim of laughing because of what the first lady termed "bangag" was not even made certain. Or to say that one can readily use Romanian contacts to silence her enemies. No first lady has had a public meltdown so bad that it puts the institution of the presidency into question.
