21 Chinese army planes spotted around Taiwan

TAIPEI: A surge of Chinese military aircraft was detected around Taiwan during a three-hour window on Saturday, Taipei's defense ministry said, a month before the self-ruled island's incoming leader Lai Ching-te is sworn into office.

China claims democratic Taiwan as part of its territory, and has said it will never renounce the use of force to bring the island under its control.
