IN an extensive interview with a newspaper owned by the Chinese Communist Party earlier this month, former president Rodrigo Duterte raised talking points straight out of Beijing's propaganda playbook. It was an unseemly performance by the former leader of this country, who expressed his gratitude to and love for China without evincing any national pride or mentioning the turmoil that Beijing's aggressive behavior has brought to his own countrymen.
