RENEWABLE energy figured prominently in the discussions at the recent Philippine Electric Power Industry Forum (PEPIF) in Iloilo, for reasons that are obvious. It is universally accepted that the energy system must transition away from greenhouse gas-emitting generation sources, and from a business and economic perspective, RE offers a vast number of growth opportunities. RE adoption is a key part of national energy policy as a quantified objective; for several years, the Philippines has at least rhetorically adhered to a goal of having RE make up 35 percent of the generation mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
