CATHOLICS are admonished to approach the sacrament of penance with eagerness particularly in the season of Lent.
First, what it is not. The sacrament of penance (or reconciliation) is not a washing machine — some site to be turned to when one has committed a grave sin and wants to be rid of it. In fact, dealing with the sacrament in this way — as a means of doing away with guilt and "feeling good" — denigrates the sacrament.
