MANILA, Philippines: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur province on Sunday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said the temblor that occurred at 2:22 p.m. was tectonic in origin.
