MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the Philippines was not "poking the bear" or acting at the behest of the United States in countering the growing threat from China's sweeping claims in the South China Sea.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Marcos said that the US has been very supportive and has shown that it was taking the agreements with the Philippines seriously but Manila would not run to Washington "when something goes wrong."
