First edible forest inaugurated in Israel

The first-of-its-kind edible forest and community garden was inaugurated in the Negev, Israel. The project is under the leadership of the Wadi Atir project, which promotes sustainable dryland agriculture, while leveraging traditional Bedouin values and experience with modern-day science and cutting-edge technologies.

The forest and garden will include a biological diversity of plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and medicinal herbs, which come together to create a strong and diverse ecosystem. The decision to establish the forest is based on the concept that forests do not need irrigation or fertilization and are durable over time — like a strong society based on human diversity working together, for the benefit of all.
