Kurt Barbosa fails to qualify for Paris Olympics

MANILA, Philippines: Filipino taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa could not make the Olympics for the second straight time, falling to Samirkhon Ababakirov of Kazakhstan in the Asian Qualification Tournament men's -58kg semifinals, 4-7, 5-16, at the Taishan International Exhibition Center in Taian, China on Saturday, March 16.

A Tokyo Olympian, the 24-year-old Barbosa would have clinched a Paris Games berth had he beaten Ababakirov and advanced to the finals.
