MANILA, Philippines: The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines on Saturday described as "fabricated" a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a US think tank, that China destroyed at least 21,000 acres of coral reefs in the South China Sea (SCS) through island construction and fishing of giant clams.

The report said that China's increased fishing, giant clam harvesting and construction activities "have taken a devastating toll on thousands of species found nowhere else on earth."
