'Politics, not economics, driving Cha-cha efforts'

POLITICS, rather than economic considerations, seems to be behind the relentless push for Charter change (Cha-cha), a former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) official said Tuesday.

'It looks like it is politics that is driving this new initiative to modify the [1987] Constitution rather than the economics of attracting foreign investments by further liberalizing some of the so-called restrictive economic provisions,' Diwa Guinigundo, former BSP deputy governor, said in a GlobalSource Partners commentary.
