MANILA, Philippines: Jericho Cruz provided a big spark off the bench as San Miguel Beer regained control of the PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup title series with a 108-98 triumph in Game 5 on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Cruz marked his hot-shooting night with a playoff-career high 30 points, highlighted by eight triples to provide the big lift for the Beermen, who grabbed the driver's seat, 3-2 in the title series.
After being held down below 86 points in the last two games that allowed the Hotshots to tie the series at 2-2, the Beermen rediscovered their shooting touch from behind the arc. San Miguel buried 16 triples in the game, held a 52-47 rebounding advantage, while its defense forced Magnolia to 21 turnovers. Bennie Boatwright added 21 points, Simon Enciso had 15, while Don Trollano chipped in 10. Tyler Bey led Magnolia with 34 points, Jio Jalalon added 17, while Ian Sangalang had 15 and eight boards. The Beermen will shoot for the series win and their 29th title overall come Game 6 set this Wednesday at the Big Dome.
