A bill that seeks to allow the use of cannabis or marijuana for medicinal purposes was passed by the joint committees of Health and Dangerous Drugs on Wednesday.

According to House Dangerous Drugs Committee chairman and Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, the two committees approved the committee report of the Technical Working Group that merged 10 bills that allowed the use of medicinal cannabis in the country and removing it from the list of "dangerous drugs" under Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the creation of a Philippine Cannabis Development Authority.
