MANILA, Philippines: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Ilocos Norte on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Tectonic in origin, the tremor took place at 12:05 p.m. some 16 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Pagudpud, the agency said. Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said it had a depth of focus of 10kms.
