MANILA, Philippines: More than 600 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released on Tuesday from various prisons and penal farms as part of the government's effort to decongest overcrowded jail facilities.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said that of the 632 PDLs released, 86 were acquitted, 503 have served their maximum sentences, 19 were granted probation, and 24 were granted parole.
