SMB sneaks past Ginebra to take 1-0 lead in semis series

MANILA, Philippines: Veteran wingman CJ Perez scored nine of his game-high 26 points in the last period to lift San Miguel Beer to a pulsating 92-90 escape act against Barangay Ginebra en route to drawing first blood in their PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup semifinal series on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Perez's game-long brilliance was huge for the Beermen, whose sweet-shooting import Bennie Boatwright was held to just 23 points after averaging over 45 points in his last three games.
