WHY replace the iconic Philippine jeepney? While jeepneys are beloved for their cultural significance, they have also faced challenges related to safety, emissions and traffic congestion. The Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) seeks to address various concerns related to safety, environmental impact and the overall efficiency of public transportation, particularly jeepneys. The guidelines and requirements for the PUVMP is embodied in Department Order (DO) 2017-011 issued by the Department of Transportation on June 19, 2017.
