THE peso and the stock market both gained on Thursday on what analysts said was optimism about upcoming US inflation data.

The currency strengthened by 32 and a half centavos to P55.95 against the dollar, while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) on Thursday added 67.72 points, or 1.03 percent, to end the day at 6,613.73.
