AS the world continues to gravitate toward SUVs and crossovers, sedans have been relegated to a lower tier among car buyers shopping for a practical family vehicle. However, while the appeal of sedans has largely diminished, sports sedans, on the other hand, will remain attractive to car enthusiasts. After all, sports sedans offer a great balance of practicality and driving pleasure that even a sporty SUV can never match. That's where a vehicle like the Subaru WRX comes in.

But before we talk about the driving experience, it would be hard not to talk about its controversial styling. Okay, so I've come to a point where I've finally appreciated its looks. The crossover-aping body cladding is supposed to protect the vehicle from rally driving if the owners intend to do so, but I'd still wish these black plastic parts were eliminated altogether. The WRX looks better in a darker shade or even in Subaru's signature World Rally Blue as the body cladding blends well in these colors. On the upside, the wider stance, bigger wheels, and hunkered-down looks do project a sporty image, which is helped by the fact that the WRX has been a separate nameplate altogether from the Impreza for the past two generations already.
