MANILA, Philippines: Import Bennie Boatwright erupted for 51 points as his game-long scoring brilliance powered San Miguel Beer to a 132-110 rout of woeful Terrafirma to boost its top 4 bid in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Boatwright was on target from the get-go after firing 23 points in the opening quarter, had 34 by halftime, before adding 17 more on the way to a 51-point effort in just his second game in the PBA. The former USC Trojan forward was on fire from downtown after knocking down seven triples.
The 27-year-old American import, added 12 rebounds as San Miguel has won four straight to improve to 7-3 overall. As per PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon, Boatwright's 51 points is the most by a San Miguel player since Shabazz Muhammad fired 57 points in a 115-110 win versus Meralco in the 2021 Governors' Cup. The SMB import's 34 points at the half also marked the first time in two years since Justin Brownlee delievered 36 in the second half to lead to a 114-111 win against NLEX in the 2021 Governors' Cup. New recruit Don Trollano added 22 points to lead the SMB locals while Moala Tautuaa and CJ Perez had 22 and 16. The Dyip dropped to 2-8, their playoff hopes already dashed since last Friday when the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters beat the TNT Tropang Giga, 119-112. Sophomore wingman Juan Gomez de Liano led Terrafirma with 26 points while Belgianimport Thomas De Thaey registered 17 markers and 17 boards.
