JERUSALEM: Israel's army said it was "prepared for any scenario" after Hamas's deputy chief was killed in a strike in Beirut, stoking fears that the war in the Gaza Strip could turn into a wider regional conflict.
A high-level security official in Lebanon told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Saleh al-Aruri was killed along with his bodyguards on Tuesday in a strike by Israel, which has vowed to destroy Hamas after the militant group's shock attacks in early October.
