WITH VUCA remaining palpable in our midst, we would still face a degree of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity in our social, economic, physical and even cultural environment in 2024. Hence, we have to contend with related issues. It is really us and no other, or others, who can keep us reasonable and practical in how we live our lives. We need to review our mindsets. If there are reflections or holy retreats, it is best to attend these sessions. We would certainly feel better because the sessions would clear our minds of the debris that VUCA leaves us with. Introspection would gift us with wholesome mindsets.
Mindsets. A mindset refers to our way of thinking, which bears our opinions. How we interpret and respond to situations depends on our mindset — our habitual or characteristic and established set of attitudes, which could be concerning culture, values, philosophy, frame of mind, outlook, and disposition. Our experience, education, upbringing and culture influence our frame of mind, shaping our thoughts, feelings and actions. Our mindset impacts how we think, feel and behave in any given situation. It affects and shapes how we make sense of the world and ourselves. What we believe about ourselves spells our success or failure. Stanford University psychologist Carol Susan Dweck tells us that our "beliefs play a pivotal role in what [we] want and whether [we] achieve it. (1O'Keefe PA, Dweck CS, Walton GM. Implicit theories of interest: Finding your passion or developing it? Psychol Sci.2018; 29(10):1653—1664.doi:10.1177/0956797618780643) Professor Dweck similarly expresses that our mindset "plays a significant role in determining achievement and success. Mindsets can influence how people behave in a wide range of situations in life. For example, as people encounter different situations, their mind triggers a specific mindset that then directly impacts their behavior in that situation." It is indeed clearly explained by these expert psychologists that our mindset does define how our lives could be. Mindsets have power. "They can help us become more successful, or they can block our way and keep us repeating our mistakes."
