THE country's debt service burden surged by 130 percent to $10.8 billion at the end of September from $4.7 billion a year earlier, preliminary Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data showed.
Both principal and interest payments ballooned during the nine-month period, the former by nearly 111 percent to $5.86 billion from $2.78 billion and the latter almost 160 percent to $4.99 billion from $1.92 billion.
