CHRISTMAS is supposed to be a season of love and sharing. Yet, Israel's relentless military operations against thousands of homeless and starving Palestinians have led to the cancellation of Christmas festivities in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. To Gaza's pregnant women, giving birth in a quiet stable must sound like a luxury. How many of them have died in airstrikes, how many unborn babies and infants have died since October 7, we will never know.
While the wars in Gaza and Ukraine may be too geographically distant for most Filipinos to give much thought to, the escalating tensions between the Philippines and China should worry all. China is the world's second most populous nation and second-largest economy. The country has in the past four decades undergone a transformation from a poor Third World country to an economically, socially and technologically advanced superpower. China's accomplishments are impressive. The world can learn much from China's experience and history.
