BEIJING expressed hope that the Philippines would "jointly safeguard" with China the peace and stability in the region as it expressed readiness to hold dialogues to settle the maritime dispute.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remark in a press briefing when asked to comment on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s statement that Philippine diplomatic efforts with China are heading "in poor direction."
