Even before President Marcos could sign the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers that Congress recently approved, maritime schools in the country have already called for an urgent review of the impending law before it spells the death knell of Philippine maritime education and training.
In a hastily issued position paper following the ratification of the final version of the proposed Magna Carta, the nation's maritime higher education institutions (MHEIs) have collectively expressed their strong opposition to the proposed enabling law of the Maritime Labor Convention 2006.
