Last of 3 parts

THE integration of domestic violence issues in the nursing curriculum was piloted by Silliman University's College of Nursing (SU-CON) from 1997 to 2000. Its project coordinator then was Dr. Teresita Sy-Sinda, the institution's hardworking vice president and a CON faculty who passed away in 2012. She was assisted by Dr. Christopher Ablan, the project technical coordinator. The late Dr. Agustin Pulido, who was then SU's president, was very supportive of this initiative. With a grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), the SU-CON's teaching and learning (student) modules were published in 2003 by De La Salle University's Social Development Research Center. Three former high-level officials wrote the foreword: Dr. Ester Garcia, CHEd's chairman; Dr. Manuel Dayrit, Department of Health (DoH) secretary; and Dr. Cecilia Laurente, president of the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing Inc. (ADPCN). I wrote the preface about the pilot project's history and acknowledged the valuable support extended by several partner institutions and individuals.
