MANILA, Philippines: A US top defense official and security experts from Japan and the Philippines pressed China to stop its "reckless and dangerous maneuvers" in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), one of which resulted in a collision with Philippine ships on a resupply mission at the Ayungin Shoal.
A statement released by the White House quoted US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, his Japanese and Philippine counterparts Akiba Takeo and Eduardo Ano as sharing concerns "about the People's Republic of China's (PRC) recent dangerous and unlawful conduct near Second Thomas Shoal and Scarborough Reef, and called on the PRC to abide by the legally binding July 2016 Arbitral Tribunal ruling and desist from further provocative behaviors."
