Much has been said about the remarkably evolved actor Piolo Pascual's performance caliber in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry, 'Mallari.' Delivered to the big screen by the more than decade-long established premier events production company-slash-recently-turned and aggressive movie outfit Mentorque Productions, 'Mallari' is the long-awaited, 'partly fictional, partly true-to-life story' based on actual events in the life of the first documented Filipino serial killer, Fr. Juan Severino Mallari, from the 1800s.
With the film's meticulous pre- to-post-production spanning over an entire year — a relatively rare practice in this ever financially-challenged local moviemaking industry — landing another truly historic first as the foremost Filipino film global production giant Warner Bros. Pictures has agreed to distribute, audiences have since developed an almost Marvel-like anticipation for 'Mallari.' Because even if only a few pulse-pounding and spine-chilling snippets have been released from the film's entirety, the impressive Hollywood stamp of approval only gives credence to its makers' pride-filled claims. That of a 'high-quality production and high caliber creative team,' devotedly conceptualizing and executing a thoroughly unique story of 'three timelines [that] combines the audiences' love for retro horror with the immediate relatability of current terrors.'
