(UPDATE) MANILA, Philippines: MAPUA University seeks to bring out the broom as it guns its first NCAA seniors basketball championship in 32 years against a San Beda team out to avert it and reclaim its old throne on Sunday, December 10, in the Season 99 finals at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Drawing strength from their rock-solid defense and a supernova performance from Clint Escamis, the Cardinals silenced Jacob Cortez and the shockingly fangless Lions, 68-63, in the best-of-three series opener on Tuesday.
