THE Christmas Convoy, a fleet of civilian boats whose mission is to bring holiday cheer to Filipino troops in remote outposts in the West Philippine Sea, started its journey on Friday.

The group of 40 volunteers made up of youth and student leaders, joined by fisherfolk leaders, embarked on the mission's first leg from Manila to El Nido in Palawan on board the MV Kapitan Oca, which would serve as the convoy's mother ship.
