TWO of the most beautiful tourist spots in the Philippines, Lakes Caliraya and Lumot, are under threat. The threat is coming from a company that wants to cover the lakes with solar panels. Now, I've nothing against solar and green energy. I'm all for it. But there are other less destructive places to install solar panels. Oh, its aim seems good. It wants to supply clean, green solar power to the people.

The trouble is it doesn't want to do it on vacant land, or on the many uncontroversial dams in Luzon or out to sea, or on roofs where the impact on society is minimal. It wants to do it right in the heart of a wondrous pair of lakes a mere 80 kilometers from Makati. It doesn't even want to do it far down on the lakes where there is little activity, but right in the center of where all the action is.
