BACOOR CITY, Cavite: The alleged leader of a notorious gun for hire and robbery gang 'Bayawak' died in an encounter with the police on Saturday morning, December 2, at Nazareth Compound in Barangay Molino III in this city.The suspect, who was identified as Gelbirth Albios Puerto, alias Boss Bay, 30, died on the spot after an encounter with the police. The suspect, a resident of Kaunlaran Horseshoe Drive, Molino II, Bacoor City, was said to be the leader of the Bayawak group operating in Calabarzon (Region 4A) area. The gang was believed to be behind a series of robberies in the National Capital Region and Region 4A.Based on the report from the office of Cavite Provincial Director Col. Eleuterio Ricardo Jr., the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), led by Gen. Redrico Maranan, coordinated with them regarding the alleged sighting of the suspect in Bacoor City.The suspect was known to have multiple cases and had plans to carry out a series of robbery hold-ups in undisclosed convenience stores in the National Capital Region and Region 4A.The suspect became noted and identified after he posted on social media a threat to the residents of Talon 4, Las Piñas City, specifically to a couple he said he would kill.Around 1:30 in the morning on Saturday (December 2), the suspect was spotted riding his Honda Click with no plate number in Nazareth Compound, Barangay Molino III, Bacoor City.A team composed of QCPD Special Operation Unit and Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, QCPD, Cavite Provincial Intelligence Unit, Las Piñas City Police Station (CPS) and Bacoor CPS quickly followed the suspect, who opened fire at the pursuing policemen.The police were forced to return fire on the suspect who died on the spot.Police recovered one caliber.45 pistol loaded with magazine, one extra magazine loaded with bullets, six empty cartridges and his motorcycle.The Las Piñas City Police Office also confirmed that alias Boss Bay was the suspect who also spread on social media his threat to turn Barangay Talon 4 into Marawi, particularly the Medina Compound in Las Piñas City.
