It does not take much to formulate a conspiracy theory these days. A congruence of events, no matter how coincidental, is enough. It is also too easy for people to jump on a conspiracy bandwagon. There is the irresistible tease of knowing there's "more than meets the eye" of an event. In this case, a basketball game.
A series of fortuitous events and an over-eager, ill-timed advertisement was more than enough to prompt pundits to put on their tin hats.
