Support swells as PH files new China protest

SEVERAL countries have expressed their support for the Philippines, calling out China's "dangerous" actions in the West Philippine Sea, as the Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, filed another diplomatic protest. The diplomatic protest filed on Friday stemmed from China's using a water cannon against a Philippine boat that was on a resupply mission to Filipino troops stationed at the B.R.P. Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal earlier in the day.

THE government on Saturday released the revised implementing rules and regulations of the Maharlika Investment Fund, giving President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the authority to accept or reject the recommended appointees to the board of the Maharlika Investment Corp. Marcos had ordered the review of the IRR of Republic Act 11954, or the law establishing the M.I.F., to ensure safeguards are in place to guarantee transparency and accountability in carrying out the provisions of the law. Under the revised IRR, the President "may either accept or reject" the recommendation of the advisory body regarding the nominees for the M.I.C.'s president and chief executive officer and independent directors. The previous version of the I.R.R. supposedly limits the choices of the President on who he can appoint to the M.I.C. Board to those shortlisted by the advisory body.

Sara unveils Miriam Santiago street sign in QC

VICE President Sara Duterte led a ceremony renaming two roads in Quezon City in honor of the late senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Saturday. The B.I.R. (Bureau of Internal Revenue) and Agham (Science) Roads, stretching from North, Quezon and East Avenues, will be known as the "Senator Miriam P. Defensor Santiago Avenue" after the passage of Republic Act 11963 on October 12. The law was deemed passed after the 30-day period in which the incumbent, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was supposed to have signed it had lapsed. In her speech, Duterte said that renaming the Agham and B.I.R. Roads after Santiago was a "tribute to her incredible achievements and a reminder of her unwavering dedication to the country."

Hotshots gun for 2nd win vs Fuel Masters

Over to sports, title favorite Magnolia Chicken Timplados guns for its second straight win when it collides with a young but hungry Phoenix side in the main game of the P.B.A. Season 48 Commissioner's Cup on Sunday, November 12, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. Coming off a weeklong respite, the Hotshots are fresh and are eager to build on their 110-102 triumph over the T.N.T. Tropang Giga during last week's season-opening game. American import Tyler Bey debuted with 31 points and 20 rebounds as led the Hotshots' auspicious season win against the injury-depleted Tropang Giga. The Hotshots side though has more to offer against a rookie-laced Fuel Masters, who surprised everyone on Friday after stunning a veteran NLEX squad, 113-101. Game time is at 6:15 p.m.
