WORKERS in the agriculture sector are questioning the appointment of fishing tycoon Francisco Tiu Laurel as the new Agriculture chief, raising concerns about corporate plantations flourishing in the country.

"Agri workers are worried that, as head honcho of an agribusiness, he would allow the corporate plantation system to flourish rather than curb its expansion," Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (UMA) acting chairman Ariel Casilao said in a statement over the weekend.
