KATHMANDU: At least 132 people were killed in an overnight earthquake that struck a remote pocket of Nepal, officials said on Saturday, as security forces rushed to assist in rescue efforts.

The 5.6-magnitude quake hit the Himalayan country's far west on Friday night and was measured by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) at just 18 kilometers (11 miles) deep.
