DEFENDING the country's sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) should not be interpreted as a hostile act. Some apparently worry that calling out bad behavior against Filipino fishermen and attempts to disrupt resupply missions to military outposts could spark the next global conflict. Of course, no one wants fighting in Southeast Asia over disputed territories or even an escalation that could lead to that. But as history reminds us, appeasement is not a solution.
