ACAPULCO, Mexico: Mexican authorities rushed to send emergency aid, restore communications, and assess damage in the Pacific coast resort town of Acapulco on Wednesday after a powerful hurricane left what residents described as a "total disaster."

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador arrived in the seaside city on Wednesday night after his convoy found roads blocked by landslides and other debris, forcing him and others to abandon their vehicles and walk the final miles.
