THE national government's gross borrowings fell in August compared to a year earlier, Bureau of the Treasury data showed, dropping by 6.9 percent to P124.06 billion from P133.34 billion a year earlier.

Based on the Treasury's latest cash operations report, domestic borrowings accounted for the bulk of August, totaling P117.37 billion. Overseas loans, meanwhile, clocked in at P6.68 billion during the month.
