PALO, Leyte: The provincial government of Leyte led the 79th anniversary rites commemorating General Douglas MacArthur's landing at the Leyte Gulf, an event that signified the beginning of the Philippines' liberation from Japanese rule during World War 2.

In his anniversary message, Leyte Gov. Carlos Jericho Petilla addressed the people of Leyte, particularly the youth, to remember the story of the Leyte Gulf Landings as part of their responsibility to preserve the heroism of the war veterans.
