THE World Architecture Day, or WAD, is an international observance that is celebrated each year on the first Monday of every October in conjunction with the United Nation's World Habitat Day. It was established by the International Union of Architects (Union Internationale des Architectes or UIA) in 1985 to show appreciation for the work that architects do. The day also encourages learning more about architecture worldwide.
For this year, the theme of the World Architecture Day is "Architecture for Resilient Communities." With this theme, the UIA gives particular emphasis on "the capacity and responsibility of architecture to create viable community life and open an international discussion on the relationship between urban and rural areas in all countries."
