The term 'influencer' has long existed and evolved over time. According to dictionary.com, the word itself has been used since the mid-1600s, although it did not have the same connotation as today.

In the past decade, however, the word 'influencer' has gained immense popularity and recognition, especially in social media and marketing. The rise of platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Twitter (now known as X) allowed individuals with substantial followings to shape trends and influence their audience in many different ways.
