Territorial tensions weigh on economy, ties

MORE than 60 percent of global maritime trade goes through the South China Sea (SCS), making it 'a vital maritime channel for the global movement of goods,' Political Analyst and Stratbase ADR Institute President Dindo Manhit told The Manila Times.

Understandably, the territorial disputes arising from overlapping claims over the islands, atolls, rocks and reefs in the SCS threatens and even disrupts trade and peace in the region.
