Termination of engagement by the lawyer or client

Dear PAO,

I have a trusted lawyer who handles all my cases. He recently wrote me that he was terminating his representation because he was appointed to public office. Is the termination of his representation proper? How do I terminate the representation of the new lawyer I will hire if I eventually lose confidence in him?
